USCA Final Event Features Chris Smith & RideTech Spectre Equipped 48-Hour Corvette

Chris Smith and the Spectre HPR Filter equipped 48-Hour Corvette

Chris and the Spectre HPR Filter equipped 48-Hour Corvette ended up 6th in the GTV class Hot Lap Challenge with a time of 1:19.548; only a few short seconds behind the class leader

The Ultimate Street Car Association (USCA) is a sanctioning body formed to create safe, fun and high profile national automotive events for street legal performance vehicles. The USCA, in association with several key sponsors, came together to promote nine nationwide Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car events in 2015. All nine events served as a qualifier for a highly coveted spot in the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational (OUSCI) event held each November in Las Vegas, Nevada following the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show. 2015 marks the second year of the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational being part of the USCA's national points series.

Chris Smith gets 7th place with the Spectre HPR Filter equipped 48-Hour Corvette for the USCA Autocross

Chris Smith found himself in 7th place for the USCA Autocross segment with a time of 47.07 while the GTV class leader held a 46.039, and the overall winner came in at 44.973 seconds

As with any major sporting series, the event leading up to the finals is a huge deal. The last event of the 2015 Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car season took place at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. Nearly 100 cars were in attendance; while there were a few new faces; most of the competitors were points-chasers giving it one last try for a spot at the OUSCI event. This ensured that the competition was fierce, and probably even more so than usual. The heat in Southern California was oppressive, but Chris Smith and the Spectre Performance cold air intake equipped 48-Hour Corvette performed as if they didn't notice the temps.

After 7 months of travel, tuning, and racing, Chris Smith knows the 48-Hour Corvette like the back of his hand and is prepared to get every last bit of performance out of the car for the OUSCI

Chris Smith and the Spectre performance powered 48-Hour Corvette had already secured an invitation to the OUSCI this summer in Texas. Chris' presence at the final USCA event was for more seat time, rather than the actual competition. Chris and the 48-Hour Corvette ended up 6th in the GTV class Hot Lap Challenge with a time of 1:19.548; only a few short seconds behind the class leader at 1:17.652 and the event leader at 1:15.311. Autocross was next and Chris Smith found himself in 7th place with a time of 47.07. In the Autocross segment, the GTV class leader held a 46.039 and the fast lap of the event was a breezy 44.973.

Chris and the Spectre HPR Air Filter equipped 48-Hour Corvette found their groove in the Speed Stop segment, coming in 3rd in their class with a time of 16.557 seconds. The GTV class leader held a 16.411, and overall fast time was 15.726 seconds. Chris Smith's times in the driving segments of the Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car, combined with points for attending the road rally and points for finishing a respectable 8th in the Design & Engineering segment, put Chris Smith and the Spectre powered RideTech 48-Hour Corvette in a 6th place GTV class finish.

After 7 months of travel, tuning, and racing, Chris knows the 48-Hour Corvette inside and out. Chris is prepared to get every last bit of performance out of the car in the upcoming Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational, immediately following SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The invitational will feature winners from each of the USCA season events as well as Spirit of the Event Award winners, top points finishers, and several Golden Ticket winners to be announced during the show.

Impala, Caprice, Camaro, & Chevelle LS Engine Swap Performance Intakes From Spectre

Spectre Performance has an easy solution for classic Chevrolet muscle car owners looking for modern LS engine power and cold air intake performance

Spectre Performance has an easy solution for classic Chevrolet muscle car owners looking for modern LS engine power and cold air intake performance

The first generation of Chevrolet small-block engines began with the 1955 Chevrolet 265 cubic inch V8 offered in the Corvette and Bel Air. That original Chevy small-block engine has become retroactively referred to as the Generation I small-block, as it is distinctly different from subsequent Generation II LT, Generation III/IV LS, and the most current Generation V LT/EcoTec3 engines. The third generation Chevrolet small block LS engine was first introduced for 1997 in the first year C5 Corvette. Although, the LS1 engine shared little in common with its predecessors, both the Gen III and subsequent Gen IV LS engine has become an increasingly popular option for muscle car enthusiasts looking for a lighter, more powerful, and more modern power plant.

It almost goes without saying that a Gen III/IV LS engine swap into a classic mid-1960’s to early 1970’s Chevrolet muscle car or pickup truck is going to require some amount of custom fabrication and adaptation. One obstacle that will need to be overcome for an LS engine swap is that in the 1960’s, up through the 1980’s, cars and trucks were carbureted and the air cleaner assembly sat directly on top of the engine. This means that figuring out how to supply a modern fuel-injected LS engine with plenty of cool airflow is going to be a little trickier once it’s dropped into a car without the proper provisions. Luckily Spectre Performance has an easy solution for classic Chevrolet muscle car owners looking for modern LS engine power.

Worth noting is that this 4th place finish was out of a total of 114 competitors, as it included the autocross-only competitors along with the Grand Champion participants. Chris Smith and the Spectre sponsored 48-Hour Corvette brought in a 10th place finish in the drag race part of the Grand Championship and an 11th place finish in the 3S Challenge.
