Just as good as [brand] if not better, for a whole lot less. I highly recommend. Would buy again.

I picked up this filter for my 04 Dakota. Because at the 7414 ft. above sea level, the engine was practically wheezing trying to get enough air through the stock air-box. Now, with the Spectre HPRE3901 installed, my truck feels like new again. It gets more than enough air, and can build enough power on those steep grades, which is great, because when I've got to get up the mountain, I've really got to get up the mountain. Thanks Spectre!

Like having a new engine. Found last weekend I had two problems with my air intake: 1) had mistakenly stored a quart bottle of oil in front of the inlet on the air-intake box (bummer...had been there for months) 2) Had had my fill of paper filters that did not work, buckled, tore, obstructed and otherwise hampered engine performance. After removing oil bottle, noticed that my 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport, 4.0L operated a lot better (well, like, yeah!), but I was not happy with the paper filter that had buckled and torn. Had been considering a performance filter for some time, so drove to Advance. Asst.Mgr suggested the Spectre as a good price/performance unit. As the price was right, at just a few bucks more than a paper filter, decided to give it a go. Had some problems getting cowling back on air-intake box as seal on Spectre filter was a bit thicker and made of stronger material than the stock paper filters I had been using. Once I got everything aligned, I had to put a little oil on the outside clips to the housing, applied some elbow grease, and I was done. Noticed improvement immediately upon starting engine: quicker start, smoother idle, better air-idle-control ramp-up. Also, got no smoke or smell of unburned fuel on starting or idling which had been problems for a while that I thought were related to O2 sensor or exhaust problems....they just disappeared. Also, check engine light that had been signaling need for new O2 sensor and some related codes did not come on and has remained off since. Once on the road, I was blown away...was like having a new vehicle. Very smooth acceleration, no stalls or delays. Found a straight stretch of road and took it up to 4K RPM in third and fourth gear which I had never been able to do before and found smooth acceleration curve from 0-115mph with no glitches nor gaps in curve...amazing, had not been able to get Jeep above 85mph before! RPMs have dropped about 10% in all gears at all speeds. Cruises well from 65-85MPH which it had never done before. Had to be on guard against speeding in trip to Tallahassee Florida the next day that was a real joy with new-found engine performance....not like the usual drag of driving a truck for 140miles roundtrip. Engine noises have all but disappeared. Idle is very smooth (checked it with a flap of paper held to tailpipe), and has lost all of the unburned fuel smell. Accelerates around town in traffic much better and people are no longer honking their horns at me to speed up! Engine is also running about 15d egrees cooler, except when idling in traffic where I have noticed only a small improvement. Went with [brand] ignition parts and wires from Advance last year and that was a huge improvement, but think this change to Spectre Air Filter is even more so. Wish I had made this change years ago. Very highly recommended. I am also considering budgeting for the cold-air performance intake kit, but the very small amount of extra cost for this filter made this a no brainer. Still, was not expecting such a huge improvement in engine and vehicle performance. Filter also came with some decals for the air-box and vehicle, not only to commemorate the installation of the filter, but, primarily, to remind mechanics and others working on the vehicle not to discard or damage the filter. Will keep an eye on the filter, but do not anticipate having to clean/re-oil it for at least 10k miles.
